Research

The interests of the CRCA research community are represented in a broad array of media and digital arts. These include, but are not limited to interactive multimedia, digital audio, digital video, sound spatialization, virtual environments, robotics, computer composition, installation, artificial intelligence, and World Wide Web art projects.

Visualization in Cross-Divisional Collaborations
Ecce Homology is an artistic exploration of the genome by artists and scientists at CRCA, UCLA and USC. This interdisciplinary collaborative project reflects a growing interest in the intersections between the new media arts and traditional science research areas. New research associate, Ruth West, is actively building a relationship under NMA and Cal-(IT)2 for integrating telescience and multi-scale imaging of biological structures and functions. For now you can view the Ecce Homology installation between November 6, 2003 - January 4, 2004 in the From the Verandah exhibition at the ULCA Fowler Museum of Cultural History.

Experiments in Art and Education using Wireless Networks
Visual Arts faculty researcher Adriene Jenik is developing projects that tap into the campus wireless network and educational research initiatives including collaboration with CSE faculty William Griswold on the Active Campus project. While fellow faculty researcher, Geoff Bowker of Communications, is creating a wireless game that interacts with video sequences and data visualization using a PDA.

CRCA-Related Events

Over the summer CRCA takes a break from public events, so we try to promote activities and public presentations by our researchers. These may take place anywhere throughout the United States or internationally, and some have net components that allow you to view or interact with them remotely. We hope you will check back again for other exciting offerings by CRCA artists and researchers, and drop us a line if you'd like to be placed on our email announcement or event list: crca@ucsd.edu.

Have a great summer!
