Bio
  Nathaniel Tull Phillips (born in El Paso, Texas on 6 February 1969) has served on the faculty of the University of California at San Diego, Palomar College, San Marcos California, and as a guest professor at Keio University in Tokyo, Japan. Currently, he is Research Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong.

Compositionally, Phillips works with combining multiple highly-differentiated sound worlds, having them interact through juxtaposition, inter-penetration, and convolution. The resulting synthesis of sounds is sometimes humorous and often mysterious or spiritual. His musical projects often involve collaborations with performers, dancers, computer artists, and involve the use of computer technology.

Recent collaborations include works for percussionist Patti Cudd and violinist Mark Menzies. Nathaniel Phillips received his Ph.D. from the University of California at San Diego where he studied with Pulitzer Prize winning composer Roger Reynolds. He also studied with Robert Hall Lewis at the Peabody Conservatory and Peter Slowik at the Northwestern School of Music.

Awards and honors include the Ada Ardens Morowitz award for outstanding compositional achievement, the Award for Excellence in Composition from the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers, grants from the American Music Center and the Peabody Conservatory, and scholarships to attend the Banff Centre, the Fountainebleau Academy of Music, and the Darmstadt International Music Festival.

Nathan also performs on Viola and other instruments. Recently he has played with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
